Don’t Blame Pain on Getting Older
As we age, there is a natural tendency to blame aches, pain and fatigue on “getting older” and—like our grandparents—we earned our symptoms. Our arthritis, weak joints, tiredness, inability to sleep, etc. can seem like badges of honor.
Well, not necessarily. If your pain is directly over your knee, for example, it could very well be arthritis. However, if the pain extends beyond the joint to the thigh, calf or foot, your pain could be something else entirely, including venous disease which affects up to 50% of people over 50.
Even if you do have arthritis, you may have a vein issue, too. This is known as “compounded discomfort.” Many people mistakenly blame their leg pain on arthritis (or an old sports injury) when a simple vein treatment could give them back their quality of life.
So before you blame your symptoms on “getting older,” get checked out and make sure that you don’t have an easily fixable venous health issue. Don’t let your pain prevent you from being active, your lack of mobility can set in motion a downward spiral of health concerns, including diabetes, heart disease and many others.
