This summer marks a milestone for one of the nation’s most iconic wine and food events. The original visionaries never imagined that thousands would come to a farm field to drink local wines. Skeptics scoffed, but a quarter-century of successes have proven those naysayers very wrong indeed.
Vintage Ohio, the first of a ‘new vision’ for wine festivals, has fostered nearly 70 other similar events across the state. And nationally, there are now dozens of other state ‘Vintage’ events, including one in Lodi, California. We have been honored to help plan many successful events.
The Vintage Ohio ‘concept’ was to create an event more impactful than a two-day party celebrating wineries and their wines. First and foremost, it was and is a tool to share the story of the emerging, and ever-changing industry. Its growth fostered an awareness of new generations of vinifera, fruit and hybrid wines, to drive year-round traffic to tasting rooms
and build relationships with media.
Over the years, it thrived to pique the interest of distributors and retailers who once, placed most local wines on the lower left-hand corner of the bottom shelf. Now, running feet of shelf space, filled with Ohio labels, is common among retailers everywhere. In 2017, to represent the boom of the craft beverage community, we invited our wineries to bring some of their own craft beers to the festival.
But over the decades, the most powerful result of Vintage Ohio has been to build an enduring relationship with tens of thousands of wine lovers from across the state…and with the ex-pats who have moved out of state, but use Vintage Ohio as one reason to return to Northeast Ohio each August.
The food, the music, the beautiful venue and certainly the wines have made Vintage Ohio a must-attend celebration of summer each year.
