Here is a quick tip for the holidays. Many of my patients come in around now complaining of mid back pain. One thing that I’ve found is that there is a direct correlation with sugar consumption and mid back pain. (I don’t know about you, but for me, eating too much sugar is a common pastime around now.) Our excess consumption of cookies, cakes and candies stresses out our pancreas. When our pancreas is stressed it will actually cause a weakness in the muscles in our back.
Applied Kinesiology discovered decades ago that the Latissimus Dorsi muscle is related to the pancreas. The Latissimus is a large muscle that attaches from the spine in the middle back. When our pancreas is stressed, these muscles will go weak on both sides, causing abnormal pulling in our spine. This causes achiness, discomfort and pain.
The long-term solution to this problem is usually to reduce our sugar consumption (New Year’s Resolution!). But for a temporary correction of this mid back pain (and to relieve stress on the pancreas), find the neurolymphatic reflex for the pancreas. They will be tender points on the lower left-hand side of the rib cage between the ribs. When you find them, rub the crap out of them. This will actually stimulate the pancreas and temporarily strengthen the Latissimus muscles, relieving the pain in the middle back.
Again, the long-term solution is to cut down on the sweets. If after the holidays, you’re still craving and/or indulging, you may have a nutritional deficiency. Let me know and we’ll figure it out.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Dr. Michael
