Nature speaks to us in so many ways; we simply have to “listen.” Recently, at our medical center in Chardon, a beautiful, expecting mother goose decided, in spite of the traffic, noise and people, that the best place to nest and start her family was next to the entrance of our surgery center.
Like mother goose, we need to stay focused on our goals and continue on our unwavering path.
When mother goose decided that she was not moving, she became determined to bring her goslings into the world right where she was.
Her mate supported her decision and protected her nest. Not one person entered our surgery center without being harassed or chased.
In our society, asking for help can be interpreted as weakness. God puts people into our lives to help us to overcome adversities. We are all connected. Proverbs 15, “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers, they succeed.”
What impressed me was mother goose’s unwavering patience. She sat on her eggs from morning until night, day after day, week after week. She was not deterred by animals, people, thunderstorms, and torrential rains and wind. Despite all the negatives, she persevered.
Many times, we give up too quickly, lose patience, and become discouraged, right before success presents itself. Be patient, dig deeper, never give up, and never surrender.
One night, as I was leaving, I stopped a few feet away and simply talked to the feathered couple. They were neither fearful nor disturbed. It is as if they knew I was no threat.
Sometimes through our worst storms, we must realize that we are embraced by an ever-loving God. The Lord said, “I will rescue those who love me!'”
Yes, life is about possibility. As life unfolds before us, it is up to us to engage it and discover its precious meanings and lessons. Every experience can be a learning experience, including watching a determined mother goose overcome her adversities and realize her family.
By the way, she delivered four beautiful goslings and at the same time, humbled and taught this lowly doctor some valuable lessons about life.
