No one ever said that following a weight loss program would be easy.
The “new” you wants to feel good about yourself, while the “old” you is content with the status quo.
The “new” you knows healthy food choices, and physical activity boosts well being, makes you feel better, and that makes you optimistic. The “old” you is a slave to your impulses and would rather lay on the couch eating snacks and blame you the next time you step on a scale or look in the mirror and then full of self-loathing you bury your head in a half-gallon of ice cream or a bag of chips. So, who are you going to listen to, the “new” you and feel hopeful, or the “old” you and feel apathetic?
If you choose the “new” you – here are some tips that can help.
#1 Find a Support Group
Sticking to your program can be a simple matter of having people who support your “new” lifestyle. People like your family, friends and co-workers you can talk to and ask them to be there to:
Listen to your challenges
Let you know they believe in you
Remind you of your commitment and the benefits
and to:
Respect your exercise schedule
Recognize your efforts and give you feedback
Stop accepting your excuses―don’t let you slide
#2 Find a Partner
Studies show that finding a partner to exercise with increases your odds of staying with your program.
The buddy system has proven very successful. After all, it is much easier to be enthusiastic about a workout or eating healthy if someone has your back! You support each other. It’s a win―win.
#3 ASK
Whether it’s a Support Group or a Partner, you get one by asking. Don’t be shy―ask your family, friends and co-workers to support and encourage you.
#4 Who are you going to listen to the “New” you or the “Old” you?
Sometimes, however, people along your path may NOT support the “new” you. They sabotage your efforts by saying, “I want the old Suzie back. She was a lot more fun. She used to go out drinking or share a large buttered popcorn at the movies, etc.”
And then you feel confused and hurt by such comments―but don’t be fooled―is that the “old” you feeling that, or the “new” you?
NEVER feel guilty or discouraged by your own successes.
