Still in PAIN? …I’m the one you come to when nothing else works
By Troy Zigman PT, Manual Physical Therapist
If you’ve ever struggled with chronic pain, you know how frustrating it is to deal with doctors who want to perform surgery or prescribe drugs.
But what if there was a non-invasive way to eliminate your pain?
What if you could address the root cause and assist your body’s innate healing power?
What if you could restore your body’s natural balance without surgery or drugs?
Enough what ifs…
VISCERAL MOBILIZATION
Visceral Mobilization (VM) evaluates and locates functional and structural imbalances in the body, relieves the symptoms and potentially solves the problem.
VM is a form of manual therapy that accesses the links between the muscles and joints, the sympathetic nervous system, the visceral organs, the spinal cord and the brain.
Your organs are in constant motion and are interrelated to other organs and the skeleton through connective tissue and ligament attachments. When organs experience trauma, surgical scarring, poor dietary health or prolonged postures, they can lose their mobility.
Loss of organ mobility causes restrictions. Your body strains to compensate and this tension can create movement patterns that lead to joint and spine dysfunction and pain. That is why the source of pain is often a distance from your chief complaint.
Gentle manipulations of organs can begin to restore the organ’s harmony with the body. As the organ re-establishes optimal function it creates a domino effect and revitalizes the many interrelated components such as bones, muscles, nerves, etc. that were impacted by the organ’s malfunction. This brings about the body’s equilibrium eradicating or decreasing pain and suffering. In addition, other complaints that were not thought related are eliminated.
SOLUTION
You need to correct what is inside the skeleton before You can correct the skeleton.
For example, if a tree falls and blocks a stream, the stream backs up and floods, and causes all kinds of problems upstream. However, the solution is not dealing with the overflow damage upstream; the solution is to remove the tree.
Let’s take a look at a couple of common imbalances…
#1 LIVER
The liver is the body’s largest digestive gland. It is involved in metabolism, nutrient storage, hormone regulation, heat production, the creation and secretion of bile to aid in the digestion of fats and it plays a crucial role in the detoxification of the body.
Are you experiencing any of these signs of liver dysfunction?
1. Sweating and poor sleep between 1 and 3 AM
2. Hormone Imbalance and increase menopausal symptoms
3. Inefficient digestion
4. Depression due to hormone imbalance
5. Nasal congestion upon waking
The liver can become dysfunctional due to congestion from poor dietary intake, high medication usage, hormone substitution and long term use of birth control.
Are you suffering any of these skeletal restrictions associated with liver dysfunction?
1. Right sided neck pain
2. Right scapular pain
3. Headache above the right eyebrow
4. Right shoulder pain with increased joint noise
5. Mid thoracic pain at the level of the bra strap
6. Right low back and right sacroiliac pain
7. Sciatic nerve pain in the right or left leg
Visceral mobilization of the liver eases restrictions and greatly reduces the above stated signs and symptoms. With integration of the mobilization and diet modifications, clients often see positive changes in sleep, digestion and improved energy in 3-4 weeks.
#2 STOMACH
The stomach is the site of both chemical and mechanical digestion. It secretes enzymes to aid in the digestion of protein, produces acid that aids digestion throughout the small intestine, and it liquefies our food prior to releasing it into the small intestine. Plus, it produces a chemical that is required for vitamin B12 absorption.
Are you experiencing any of these signs of stomach dysfunction?
1. Heartburn/GERD
2. Bloating after meals
3. Heavy appetite followed by rapid filling up
4. Heart symptoms including arrhythmia
5. Constipation
The stomach is under constant strain from the pressure differences in our thorax and abdomen, and changes in these pressures due to trauma or surgical intervention lead to dysfunction and related symptoms.
Are you suffering any of these skeletal restrictions associated with stomach dysfunction?
1. Left sided neck pain
2. Mid and lower thoracic pain on the left
3. Pain in the lower front ribs in the left
4. Left shoulder pain with increased joint noise
5. Left sacroiliac pain
The stomach is drawn toward the diaphragm as if by a magnet. Visceral mobilization involves stabilizing the stomach and improving its mechanical activity. Movement upward is reduced, relieving symptoms of heartburn, neck and shoulder pain and movement downward is reduced aiding digestion and pain in the thorax.
