I was thirteen and losing my hair.
Being active and trying to fit in became a nightmare. My eyeliner and eyebrow pencils went everywhere with me. That’s right I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes. All my hair—gone.
I had to cut out a lot of things I enjoyed. I couldn’t swim, work out or cry in public for fear of washing off my makeup.
After a year, I was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis, an autoimmune disorder that causes the loss of all hair.
That was thirty-five years ago. I had to learn how to deal with my new self, and life had to go on. And now, it is my life’s work. With the use of wigs, permanent makeup and consultation I have the pleasure of helping others turn crisis into acceptance, and witnessing them flourish right before my eyes.
Today, I live by, “No hair—don’t care.”
